Gary Eisenberg belongs to South Africa’s Litvak Jewish community since his family is originally from Lithuania. His interest in the restoration of citizenship laws of Lithuania was developed as a result of his involvement in South Africa’s Jewish communal affairs. He thus established a unit within his practice assisting Jewish descendants of Lithuanian citizens to have their rights to Lithuanian (and European Union) citizenship restored. Gary’s grandfather, Rabbi Ze’ev Eisenberg’s contribution to Lithuanian Yiddish literature is noted by scholars in the field. He is proud of his Lithuanian Jewish heritage and continues to develop his expertise in the area.
